Writing Effective Classified Ads
Classified advertising is one of the most effective
and inexpensive advertising methods available, both on and off of the
Internet. But writing a good classified ad is confusing to many.
Here as some simple tips to keep in mind that will
help you write great classifieds with pull!
1. HEADLINE
Start your classified ad with a headline. This is
simply two or three words CAPITALIZED at the beginning of your ad that
grab the attention of the reader. Avoid overcapitalization, though,
which will appear as if you are screaming at your reader!
2. ACTION WORDS
Use an action word (a verb) at the beginning of your
ad. Words like EARN, SAVE, GET, FEEL, DO all encourage the reader to
take action.

3. SOLVE A PROBLEM
Can your business or product solve a problem for your
potential customer? Let them know! We are all looking for solutions of
some kind. Don't waste your ad space bragging about yourself or your
company. Prospective clients are more interested in what you can do
for THEM.
4. KEEP IT SHORT
Keep your sentences short and easy to read. Don't try
to get all the information about your company or product into your ad.
The goal of your ad should be to peak the curiosity of the reader
enough that they will want more information. Then make sure that they
know how to reach you.
5. USE AN AUTORESPONDER
Using an autoresponder address in your ad allows your
prospect to send for more information about what you have to offer
quickly and easily. It also allows you to capture their email address,
so that you can follow up with them later.

Consider using a tracking service to test your
classified ads. I recommend placing ads in inexpensive places, such as
smaller ezines, etc. to start with. It is difficult to test ads that
have been placed for free, since the volume of ads that are placed may
muddy your results.
Continue to make modifications to you ads and test
them. Once an ad has proven itself effective, you will feel more
comfortable placing it in places that may cost you more, but have a
much higher return.
(Author's note: I personally use the services at
Click-n- Promote and have found them to be wonderfully effective. You
have access to several autoresponders that can personalized with

This week's TIP
Easy Image Rollover
Think mouse-overs are tough? Think again ... here's
a totally easy way to change an image when the user hovers over it.
The following code will require you to have two images, one that
appears on page load, and one that appears when users hover or roll
over the first image with their mouse. Finally, we also specify a
return to our original image when the user mouses back out.
Step 1. Make a Link:
<a href="page1.html"
onMouseOver="imagename.src='pic-2.gif'"
onMouseOut="imagename.src='pic.gif>
onMouseOut tells the
browser that when the mouse is NOT over image imagename, then display
pic.gif, which is the original image. If this piece is not there, you
will get an error message.
Step 2. Add the Image:
<img src="pic.gif"
name="imagename" border=0></a>. The NAME attribute is
important - as the Javascript uses it.
You have now completed your image rollover. Pretty
easy, huh?
NOTE: If you do not want the image to be clickable,
remove "page1.html" and replace it with a "#" sign.

Creating Secure Online Backups
Today, many pc users are storing files on the Internet
by using some free online storage service. While these online
locations can easily be used to store backups as well, you should be
very careful when sending sensitive documents and emails across the
Internet. Since bandwidth and storage space is often limited, you
should also consider compressing the data before sending it to a
remote server.
Encryption When transmitting private information
across public networks like the Internet, some kind of encryption is
absolutely critical. Because the internet consists of millions of
computers connected together by an incredibly amount of wire,
satellite and radio connections, there is no way of knowing who will
be listening to your datastreams as they are transmitted across the
network. The only way to ensure that no one will be able to access
your data is to encrypt the datastream before it leaves your computer.
Sometimes this is done by your browser using secure connections, but
to ensure that the data is always encrypted your should encrypt the
files yourself. WinBackup allows you to encrypt backups using up to
256 bit AES encryption, making it virtually impossible for anyone to
access the contents of your online backups. Since encryption is
performed on-the-fly backup operations will be performed quickly and
easily even when use strong encryption is used. To create an online
backup using WinBackup you simply select an appropriate security level
and start the backup. The result will be a single compressed and
encrypted file than can safely be transmitted to your online backup
location.
Compression When sending backups across the Internet
to an online location compression is often necessary to reduce the
size of the backup file. Since online storage is often limited
compression will also allow you to backup more data without running
out of storage space. WinBackup features a fully multi-threaded
encryption and compression engine than encrypts and compresses your
files in parallel for maximum performance. Backups can often be
reduced by 50% or more using efficient compression and some text
documents and emails might be reduced by up to 90%. This will allow
you to transfer large backups even over a relatively slow modem
connection and will allow most users to create online backups quickly
and easily.
