My 2¢ Worth


e've got snow! Lots of snow. It dumped about 20 inches of snow in our part of Minnesota Sunday night. Then we went into the deep freeze.

t's been below zero all week thus far, with no relief in sight. Our high yesterday was 24 below zero! It got down to 35 below over night.

  heard some woman in Washington, DC complaining that it was cold there the other day. The newsman asked her what the temperature was. She said it was about 20 degrees. 20 degrees! That ain't cold — it's spring-like!

hen it gets up to 20 degrees in Minnesota we start thinking about how to accessorize our summer wardrobe. When it gets up to 30 we take our chain saws out to the lake, cut a big hole in the ice and then jump in for a refreshing swim! When it gets above 30 — we complain that it's to darned hot!

o I don't want to hear any more Easterners complain about the cold. If you want to experience cold, come visit Minnesota.

Success Made Simple

The Internet is the best thing to happen to the small business person in many years. Some would say that it's the best thing to *ever* happen to business at all!

While it is true that the Internet empowers anyone with a dial-up connection to go into business, that ease of entry can often lead to a false sense of security.

The real bottom-line is this. While you can get into business in 15 minutes, it takes time to succeed and build any business. Even on the Net.

The good news, the great news, is that you can do this! The Internet is perhaps the most level playing field known to mankind.

If you have the drive and determination, and will back those attributes up with patience and persistence, success will indeed be yours.

With that in mind, here are my four keys to success on the Internet.

Before we begin, please remember that you are investing your time, talents and energies. Value them and treat them as you would any investment.

Now, my top four ways to succeed online.

1. Choose your business carefully.

It is very easy to become excited by the words we read on a web page. The people who host these pages pay big bucks to make sure their words excite us. But not every opportunity is for every person.

So how can you know what's right for you? Ask yourself these questions.

  • Is there a real demand for this product or service?
  • How much competition exists?
  • Can I afford to compete?
  • Does this business require special skills or knowledge?
  • Can I gain these skills or knowledge quickly?
  • Is the company reliable with a proven record?
  • Does the company pay on time and as promised?

IMPORTANT: Remember that the company must qualify to get you to work with them, not the other way around. In many cases you will spend money on a business opportunity. When you do, never forget that you are the customer.

2. Make Time Your Ally

Once you choose a business be sure to commit to give that business a fair chance to succeed before deciding to make any changes. Far too many people join a 'program', don't make any money in the first three or six weeks and then search for the next program.

Another way to make time your ally is to use automation. Learn about things like autoresponders (programs that send out email while you sleep!), accepting credit cards online and more. In order to capitalize on the 24/7 nature of the Internet you will need to use automation to your advantage.

3. Find A Mentor

We all need help from time to time. Why should you re-invent the wheel when so much of the work has been done for you? If you are involved in Network Marketing you should expect your upline to be a mentor to you.

To be clear, when I say mentor I don't mean a best friend who drops by for coffee every Saturday morning. I do mean that you need someone to ask questions of, someone to run ideas past, and someone who will protect your best interests and work toward your success.

4. Avoid "Dead Sea Syndrome"

What I call "Dead Sea Syndrome" is simply being a person who is always taking in but never giving out. To be sure, you will spend a great deal of time and energy learning any business you choose. After all, we must know our product and business to succeed. But there will come a time when you can be a mentor to someone with the same questions you once had.

When that time comes, complete the circle by publishing a free report, take a phone call or write an ezine. When you do you will learn even more and be a blessing to others as well.

Success can be simple. The Internet makes it even more so. All it takes is careful decision making, a firm commitment to your goals and priorities and a little help along the way.

This week's TIP

Easy Image Rollover

Think mouse-overs are tough? Think again ... here's a totally easy way to change an image when the user hovers over it. The following code will require you to have two images, one that appears on page load, and one that appears when users hover or roll over the first image with their mouse. Finally, we also specify a return to our original image when the user mouses back out.

Step 1. Make a Link:

<a href="page1.html" onMouseOver="imagename.src='pic-2.gif'" onMouseOut="imagename.src='pic.gif>

onMouseOut tells the browser that when the mouse is NOT over image imagename, then display pic.gif, which is the original image. If this piece is not there, you will get an error message.

Step 2. Add the Image:

<img src="pic.gif" name="imagename" border=0></a>. The NAME attribute is important - as the Javascript uses it.

You have now completed your image rollover. Pretty easy, huh?

NOTE: If you do not want the image to be clickable, remove "page1.html" and replace it with a "#" sign.

Second Article

Adding & Removing Toolbar Buttons Simplified

You can now customize your toolbars with a couple clicks, even adding buttons you didn't even know existed! It's like a quick shopping spree where you select from a list - I want this one, this one, and that one. No, I do not want this one. Wow, there's an icon to do that? In Office 2000, Microsoft made customizing their built-in toolbars a snap, if you know how. Here's the trick:

  • When a built-in toolbar is docked the "More" icon displays. The "More" icon is the last icon on the right with a small triangle pointing down.


  • Click on the "More" button. When you click on this icon the Add or Remove Buttons button displays.


  • Click on the Add or Remove Buttons button. A list of all the buttons relating to that toolbar displays. A checkmark displays in front of the name of the buttons that currently show on the toolbar. Notice that several of the options are new and very useful.


  • Click on the buttons to remove by clicking on the checkmark in front of the name of the button. This does not delete the button. It remains on the list to be added later if desired.


  • Click in front of the name of the buttons in which you want to display, placing a check mark in the box.


  • When you are done simply click anywhere outside of the pop-up box to close it.


Now your toolbar fits your needs.
